Mr. Dewberry, who originally founded Dewberry Capital Corporation in 1989 with $5,000 of personal capital, has grown his company into one of the leading commercial real estate firms in the Southeast through the acquisition and development of more than three million square feet of property. Today, the firm’s approximately $1.5 billion in operating assets spans from Virginia to Florida, with additional development properties representing approximately $5 billion in future revenue.
Over Dewberry Group’s 30-year history, the firm has become the largest private owner of land on or adjoining Peachtree Street, the backbone of the commercial business district in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, and a respected presence in Florida, Virginia, South Carolina and beyond.
Mr. Dewberry’s unique ability to understand the intersection of architecture, design and development is his hallmark, and led to the founding of Studio Dewberry, Dewberry Group’s design firm, in 2014.
Beginning with collaborations with architects, preservationists and design firms on his homes in Charleston, South Carolina, and Doonbeg, Ireland, Studio Dewberry has expanded organically to include additional larger partnerships on design, furnishing, lighting and art commissions, for prominent developments within the Dewberry Group’s Atlanta portfolio—including Midtown Atlanta high-rise office developments, Campanile, Peachtree Pointe and The Dewberry Charleston. Prior to founding Dewberry Group, Mr. Dewberry worked for the New York–based Marine Midland Bank (a predecessor to HSBC) as Assistant Vice President Southeast in commercial real estate lending. In 1986, Mr. Dewberry received his bachelor’s degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he also served as quarterback for the Yellow Jackets football team during the 1983, 1984 and 1985 seasons.
John ClotfelterDewberry Group
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Clotfelter joined Dewberry Group in 2008 as Controller, overseeing the company’s corporate accounting, tax and human resources divisions. In 2017, Mr. Clotfelter was promoted to Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Clotfelter specialized in assurance and taxation for privately held real-estate and commercial development clients with a prestigious Atlanta-based accounting firm. He received his bachelor’s degree in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his master’s degree in accounting from Kennesaw State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Kim LavigneDewberry Group
of Real Estate
Ms. Lavigne joined Dewberry Group in 2014 as Director of Property Management, responsible for the oversight and direction of the property management division and building operations for Dewberry Group’s prime office, retail and residential assets, as well as for the retail leasing division. Shortly after joining the firm, she was promoted to Vice President of Real Estate. Ms. Lavigne began her career in commercial real estate with Aaron Rent’s as a Real Estate Manager overseeing more than three hundred locations throughout the Central United States, the Mississippi Valley and the Southwest, and later served as the Vice President of Operations for Stafford Properties, Inc. There, she was responsible for the oversight and direction of the primary components of the property management division, which included at times more than two million square feet of primarily commercial real estate comprised of more than 400 tenants throughout the Southeast, specifically Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Ms. Lavigne received her bachelor’s degree in business management from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and her master’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University. She is a licensed real estate agent in the state of Georgia and has been an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) since 2004.
Lockie BrownStudio Dewberry
Mr. Brown joined Dewberry Group in 2014 after more than thirty years in private architectural practice in the Atlanta area. His expertise in the hospitality sector—he has designed key properties for major luxury hotel brands throughout the United States and the Caribbean—led to the successful creation of the Group’s first hotel, The Dewberry, in Charleston, SC which has won numerous industry awards since it opened in 2016. Today, Mr. Brown’s focus has expanded to include Studio Dewberry, where he and a team of designers, architects and brand experts work closely with Mr. and Mrs. Dewberry collaborate on the design of all major development projects, as well on the Dewberry Hospitality Group’s expanding luxury hotel division. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, who grew up in the Atlanta area, Mr. Brown completed his undergraduate degree in architecture from Clemson University, where he was a member of Clemson’s 1981 National Championship Football team, and later received his master’s degree in architecture degree from there, as well. He is a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Following her undergraduate education at Georgia Southern University, where she nurtured an underlying passion for philanthropy, Mrs. Dewberry began her career with the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Alexander-Tharpe Fund in Athletic Development. From there she joined Dewberry Group as Director of The Dewberry Foundation, where she manages charitable requests, contributions and strategic planning. A native of Dalton, Georgia, and the daughter of design and home décor retail business owners, Mrs. Dewberry parlayed her appreciation for art and antiques into her latest role with at the helm of Dewberry Group’s Studio Dewberry. As Principal, she oversees design and procurement along with her husband, John.
Dewberry Group founder and CEO John formally started Studio Dewberry in 2014 to handle everything from architecture and interiors to product development and procurement, as well as graphic art and branding, for all of the real estate and hospitality properties within Dewberry Group’s portfolio. Their most distinguished project to date is the opening of the five-star Dewberry hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. Today, Mrs. Dewberry divides her time among the family’s homes in Charleston, Atlanta, San Francisco and Doonbeg, Ireland.
David GroceDewberry Group
Mr. Groce has served as General Counsel for Dewberry Group since 2017. He is responsible for overseeing the legal affairs, as well as the strategic and business development activities, of the company and its affiliates. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Groce held senior legal, policy and strategy positions with a range of high-profile businesses throughout the country, including Anheuser-Busch, Sara Lee and Monsanto. In addition, he was a partner in a large regional law firm based in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Groce graduated from James Madison University in Virginia and, later, attended the University of Tulsa, where he received his law degree.
John FreemanDewberry Group
Director of Leasing
In 2015, Mr. Freeman joined Dewberry Group as Controller, overseeing corporate accounting, financial reporting, cash management, tax strategy, financing and human resources; within a year, he was promoted to Director of Finance and, recently, took on the role of Director of Leasing. A 2005 graduate of Auburn University with a master’s degree in accounting, Mr. Freeman began his career in Birmingham, Alabama, as an auditor with the global accounting firm Ernst & Young. He later transferred to Houston, Texas, where he worked in a variety of industries, including Real Estate, Construction, Oil and Gas, Manufacturing and Distribution, before returning to Atlanta in 2008 to accept a job with Morgan Stanley’s Real Estate Investing group as a Fund Controller. In 2012, when State Street acquired his group, Mr. Freeman was retained to manage a team in charge of fund accounting and investor reporting for a $6 billion global real estate fund. Today, in addition to volunteering for multiple organizations in the greater Atlanta area, Mr. Freeman serves as the Finance Chairman for the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of DeKalb County.
Douglas GermanDewberry Group
Mr. German joined Dewberry Group in 2016 from Tishman Speyer Properties, L.P., where he was an Assistant Project Manager. During his time there, he handled large tenant build-outs and assisted in the renovation of Colony Square as well as the new development of Three Alliance Center. In 2013, Mr. German graduated from The Citadel, where he played four years of football and served as a Company Commander during his senior year.
Ley BarnesDewberry Group
Mr. Barnes joined the Dewberry Group’s capital management team in 2016 serving as Controller. In this capacity he manages the accounting, financial reporting, cash management, tax strategy and human resources for Dewberry Group and its related properties. Mr. Barnes began his career with Ernst & Young in their Birmingham and Atlanta offices. As a member of Ernst & Young’s Assurance & Accounting Business Services practice he worked with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to entrepreneurial startups. Prior to joining Dewberry Group, Mr. Barnes was Controller for a healthcare management company, serving as an integral member of the leadership team as the company sought out and completed a private equity recapitalization. Mr. Barnes graduated from Auburn University, where he received a master’s degree in accounting.
Elizabeth ArmstrongStudio Dewberry
Mrs. Armstrong joined Dewberry Group in the beginning of 2017 and is responsible not only for creating and refining The Dewberry Hotel’s communications and branding, but also for maximizing The Dewberry brand’s long-term potential, growth and profitability through strategic partnerships and experiential programming. With over a decade of experience in brand development, public relations, advertising, experiential marketing and copywriting in the New York City metro area, with home décor, fashion and lifestyle brands, Mrs. Armstrong brings a unique perspective to Studio Dewberry. She graduated from Quinnipiac University with honors, where she received her degree in English and Public Relations.
Trey HowardStudio Dewberry
Mr. Howard joined Dewberry Group’s team in the fall of 2017 as an architect designer and has been a key contributor to the advancement of Studio Dewberry. Working closely with Vice President of Design Lockie Brown, Mr. Howard supports design creation and implementation for all ongoing and upcoming development projects. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Howard, a native of Tampa, Florida, spent more than four years specializing in Higher Education and Aviation design with various Atlanta-based architecture firms. He received his bachelor’s degree in fine arts in architecture from the Savannah College of Art & Design, and subsequently earned his master’s degree in architecture from the University of Florida. Mr. Howard resides in Atlanta.
Taylor Sock HarrisStudio Dewberry
Director of Procurement
Mrs. Harris joined Dewberry Group as a member of Studio Dewberry in the fall of 2017 with the focus of managing and centralizing procurement. Mrs. Harris is eager to contribute to the growing Dewberry brand and its vast portfolio of projects. She brings a decade of experience in product development, merchandising and supply chain strategy across a variety of product categories to her role. Before joining Studio Dewberry, Mrs. Harris spent six years with Spanx in Atlanta, where she led Merchandising Strategy for the mid-tier and mass brand business sectors. Prior to that, she managed product development and buying for Mud Pie Gift, also based in Atlanta. Mrs. Harris received her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina’s International Business School.
Matt ConnorsDewberry Group
Mr. Connors first joined Dewberry Group as a Finance Intern in the Spring of 2014. As the team’s Finance Associate, he develops financial models for new project developments, analyzes and evaluates capital structure, and maintains treasury reporting. While a member of the Georgia Tech football team, Mr. Connors earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He was awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship on behalf of the ACC and completed his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Real Estate from Georgia Tech. Prior to joining Dewberry, Mr. Connors interned with commercial real estate brokerage firm, Marcus & Millichap.
Lee MorrisonDewberry Group
Mr. Morrison joined Dewberry Group in the spring of 2014. As the firm’s Finance Associate, he assists with all financing efforts related to future projects, developments under construction, and stabilized assets. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Morrison completed his Masters of Business Administration graduating Beta Gamma Sigma from Millsaps College. In the Spring of 2012 he graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Business Administration from Millsaps College. During his academic studies, Mr. Morrison worked as a financial intern at Merrill Lynch as well as an intern at The Mississippi Development Authority.
Johnny LigonDewberry Group
Property Accounting Manager
Mr. Ligon joined Dewberry Group in 2016 as a Senior Accountant. In his current role as Property Accounting Manager, he is responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for Office, Retail, and assets held for development. Mr. Ligon’s passion for the real estate industry has also led to an active role in property management where he tackles on-site issues, handles lease administration, and helps drive the CAM Reconciliation process. Prior to joining Dewberry Group, Mr. Ligon worked in real estate tax. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting from The University of Alabama and a Masters in Tax Accounting from Georgia State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and licensed to practice in Georgia.
Ebonie KellyDewberry Group
Ms. Kelly joined Dewberry Group in Winter 2018 as an Accounting Administrator. In her current role she manages all accounts payable and receivable functions and provides general support to the entire Accounting team. Prior to joining Dewberry Group she worked as an AP/AR Specialist at Concessions International for 13 years where she provided support to over 60 restaurants in all major airports across the United States and USVI. Ms. Kelly is a native Atlantan and earned her Bachelors of Business Administration from Georgia State University with a major in Finance.
Hannah McNeilDewberry Group
Director of First Impressions
Ms. McNeil joined Dewberry Group in January 2018 as the Director of First Impressions. She takes pride in welcoming all visitors, manages daily office operations, and assists our team, our corporate residents and our visitors in any way possible. Ms. McNeil earned her degree at the University of Mississippi in Early Education and then proceeded to teach in North Carolina for four years. She currently serves as the Promotions Director of Newnan Junior Service League in Coweta County.
Sara BrandonDewberry Group
Real Estate Coordinator
Ms. Brandon joined Dewberry Group in the fall of 2018 as a Real Estate Coordinator. She is responsible for supporting the Vice President of Real Estate in day-to-day management and administration of operational tasks. Prior to joining Dewberry Group, Ms. Brandon served as a Senior Program Coordinator for a Nashville, Tennessee based Association Management Firm, specializing in Community Engagement and Development. Ms. Brandon received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama’s College of Communication & Information Sciences, majoring in Public Relations.
Adam HartleyDewberry Group
The Dewberry Team welcomed Adam Hartley in 2014 in the role of Chief Engineer for the Campanile building. A lifelong Atlantan, Mr. Hartley joined us after spending over 10 years working in facilities for the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. He has been an entrepreneur, owning both an outdoor guide service and a property service company. On success in his current role Adam “believes building strong relationships with tenants and coworkers is the key”. The Dewberry team is proud to have him serving our corporate residents.
Brandon HarrisDewberry Group
Brandon Harris joined Dewberry Group in 2016 as Chief Engineer for Peachtree Pointe. Prior to his current role he spent 4 years at Hines managing engineering after working as an Electronic Technician at FLIR. Mr. Harris is a veteran and graduate of the United States Navy Nuclear Power Program where he was previously stationed in Charleston, SC as well as Pearl Harbor, HI and is the recipient of the Commanding Officer’s Personal Excellence Award. He graduated with honors from Kennesaw State University. Since joining the team, Mr. Harris has proven to be an asset to the excellence of our Peachtree Pointe properties.
Taylor BartonDewberry Group
Mr. Barton became a Dewberry Group team member in October 2015 as a Building Engineer at the Campanile building and in 2016 moved to service the Peachtree Pointe development. He brings a vast knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, learned through various field experiences as well as three years of facilities maintenance with the YMCA. Mr. Barton continues to hone his knowledge of industry standards and regulations through regular professional seminars and workshops as well as continuing to work toward his professional designation as a systems maintenance technician
Thomas OglesbyDewberry Group
Mr. Oglesby joined Dewberry Group in summer 2017 as a Building Technician at Midtown’s Campanile Building. In this role, he supports building maintenance to meet Dewberry Group’s standard of excellence and services any and all maintenance requests from corporate residents. Prior to joining Dewberry Group, Mr. Oglesby gained related experience as a lead painter and in other facilities maintenance positions throughout the Atlanta area.
